Celebrity Cars > SUVs

With fuel prices at record levels in the U.S., it's no wonder that people shopping for sport-utility vehicles. Celebrities are as interested in fuel economy as they are in utility. The most popular SUV during the third quarter of 2005 is also the most fuel-efficient of the bunch. Ford's 2WD version of the Escape Hybrid—the first sport-utility vehicle to feature a hybrid gas-electric powertrain—has an EPA fuel economy rating of 36 mpg in the city.

The Escape Hybrid is followed by another fuel-efficient SUV, the Honda CR-V. Toyota's 4Runner is third most popular, with Ford's Explorer in the fourth spot. Explorer is currently the best-selling SUV in America and has been for several years. The newest member of the Hummer family, the H3, rounds out the top five.

Of course, if you are a celebrity, you can most likely afford whatever you want, regardless of fuel efficiency or economy value. Below is are some of the top SUV selections by celebrities, and some of the top SUVs overall.

1. Hummer H2
Bam Margera pranked many foes in his orange H2 Hummer. A standard vehicle for impressing some fans. The H2 features full-time four-wheel drive that splits torque 40/60 front to rear. For slippery, higher-speed situations such as driving in silt, sand, or mud, the center diff can be locked to split torque 50/50. The standard four-wheel traction control offers a "TC2" switch that allows more wheel slip to keep up momentum.

2. Cadillac Escalade
The Cadillac Escalade is a luxury staple in the SUV category. Wilmer Valderamma owns the same Escalade that was punk'd by co-star of that '70s show, Ashton Kutcher. The Escalade's capable foundation is the new GMT800 platform shared with the Chevy Tahoe, GMC Yukon, and Yukon Denali. Built in Arlington, Texas, the Escalade's chassis structure features an all-welded, fully boxed, ladder-type channel-frame design with hydroformed front and rear sections.

3. Range Rover
Tom Cruise and Mel Gibson both own these sporty new SUVs, along with several other celebrities. The Range Rover is easy to drive and its high stance, which makes it so usable off road, puts the housewife head and shoulders above much of the traffic around her including other sport utility vehicles. And the new Rover does not fill tippy as some Land Rover products in the past.
